Learn the basics of being a barista and master espresso

This introductory Barista level training certified by the SCA is the gateway to discovering the world of specialty coffee and learning the fundamental skills of the barista profession.

The Goal

Designed according to the educational standards of the Coffee Skills Program of the Specialty Coffee Association, it allows you to acquire the essential skills to work behind an espresso bar: grinder adjustment, extraction of a balanced espresso, and milk texturing for milk-based drinks.

Led by Bruno, a certified trainer, this course alternates clear explanations with intensive practice to allow you to quickly acquire the professional gestures used behind a coffee bar.

SCA Certification

This training follows the official Barista Skills Foundation program of the Coffee Skills Program.

At the end of the training, you can take the exam to obtain the official SCA certification, internationally recognized in the specialty coffee industry.

A minimum of 4 participants is required. 6 participants maximum.

The program

Curriculum - Barista Initiation Module

Morning:

. Introduction of participants and instructor

. Coffeeology theory: coffee culture, origin, botany, processing, harvesting…

. Tasting and sensory analysis of different species, origins, varieties, and roast profiles

Lunch break (1 hour)

Afternoon:

. Espresso theory: definition and key extraction variables

. Practice: extraction techniques, optimizing workflow while adhering to hygiene standards, sensory analysis by adjusting variables

. Milk theory: composition, frothing techniques, recipes

. Practical application: frothing and introduction to latte art

Our Parisian Workshop

Our training room is equipped with professional espresso machines identical to those found in coffee shops. It also houses the first water bar dedicated to coffee in Paris and serves as a partner training center for Brita, a global leader in water filtration. This allows you to learn in real-world conditions, understanding all the parameters that influence the quality of a coffee.

Yes, this training prepares you for the official Specialty Coffee Association Barista Skills Foundation exam. After passing the MCQ, you will receive an internationally recognized certification in the specialty coffee industry.

The training lasts a full day, 7 hours, and takes place at La Maison du Barista at 17 rue Beaurepaire, in the 10th arrondissement of Paris.

The training price is €500. This fee includes the training day led by an SCA certified trainer as well as preparation for the certification exam.

The SCA certification exam is an online MCQ to be completed within three weeks of the training. A minimum score of 60% is required to obtain certification.
